The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has announced a month-long campaign to highlight what it describes as poor facilities and infrastructure in schools and colleges across Rajasthan. The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) has announced a month-long campaign to highlight what it describes as poor facilities and infrastructure in schools and colleges across Rajasthan. CJP co-founder and co-convener Ashutosh Ranka said the organisation will light “Aashirvad ke diye” at educational institutions as part of the initiative.
Ranka said the campaign will run from September 17 to October 17, coinciding with a month-long period of programmes being held around Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday. He said CJP would use the initiative to draw attention to the condition of educational institutions in BJP-ruled states, beginning with Rajasthan. “From now on, CJP will shed light in schools and colleges,” Ranka said, outlining the organisation’s stated focus on education infrastructure.
The announcement comes after CJP’s recent campaign to inspect government schools in Rajasthan under its “School Theek Karo” initiative. In August, a CJP team led by Ranka faced a confrontation while visiting a government school in Rampura-Kanwarpura near Jaipur. CJP alleged that its members were attacked, while accounts of the incident differed over what happened and who was responsible.
The incident also triggered a political exchange in Rajasthan, with the BJP rejecting allegations made by CJP about its workers’ involvement. Ranka has continued to say that the organisation will focus on school infrastructure and facilities. The CJP’s campaign has also attracted attention outside Rajasthan, with the group recently taking its “School Theek Karo” initiative to Noida and calling for inspections of educational institutions. The “Aashirvad ke diye” announcement comes on September 17, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday. The BJP has separately launched a month-long “Seva Sankalp Abhiyan” running from September 17 to October 17, with activities including service programmes, health and blood donation camps, plantation drives and other public outreach events. An “Aashirwad Ka Diya” programme is also part of the birthday-related activities.
CJP’s proposed campaign uses the same period but presents the diya-lighting exercise as a way of drawing attention to the condition of schools and colleges. Ranka said the organisation intends to continue raising questions about educational facilities and infrastructure through the campaign.
