Activist Abhijeet Dipke on Thursday, October 15, condemned the continued detention of Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) activists Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, labelling their ongoing incarceration an "illegal arrest" stemming from waving the national flag. The remarks follow a three-day period of detention for the two activists, who were taken into custody by Delhi Police after an incident involving unauthorised entry into Jantar Mantar, which has been de-notified as a designated protest venue.

Social Media Statements and Custody Status

Taking to social media, Dipke criticised the legal actions taken against his peers. In a post on X, he wrote: “It's Day 3 of Ashu and Saurav's illegal arrest. Two young men who gave up their comfortable lives to fight for change are now languishing in jail.” “Imagine being jailed in your own country for waving your own national flag,” the post added. CJP Founder Abhijeet Dipke Counters Mary Millben Over US Funding Allegations, Questions Foreign Interference.

Following their detention, Das and Ranka were remanded to five days of judicial custody. Party member Ajinkya Shinde asserted that the activists would not be intimidated by the police action.

Delhi Police Rationale and Charges

Delhi Police defended the arrests, stating that the activists made repeated attempts to disturb public peace, violate the law, and instigate others through social media. According to official statements, the incident occurred on the morning of October 13, when 14 CJP members, including Das and Ranka, allegedly entered the de-notified Jantar Mantar site via private premises. Police detained all 14 individuals and registered two separate FIRs at the Connaught Place and Parliament Street police stations under relevant provisions of law. ‘Declare an Emergency’: Abhijeet Dipke Reacts As Ashutosh Ranka, Saurav Das Get 5-Day Judicial Custody.

The arrested leaders were subsequently produced before Special Executive Magistrate Mahesh Kumar Meena at the Mandir Marg police station, who ordered five days of judicial custody. Authorities reiterated that Jantar Mantar is no longer an authorized location for demonstrations, with designated alternative protest sites including Ramlila Ground, Burari Ground, and CBD Ground in East Delhi.
