The Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Ahmedabad Rural Police has dismantled a major criminal network involved in the adulteration of blood plasma units supplied to a pharmaceutical company in the Changodar industrial area. Authorities have arrested four individuals, including the alleged mastermind behind the operation, and seized equipment and compromised medical supplies valued at approximately INR 12.06 lakh.
Modus Operandi of the Racket
The breakthrough came after the SOG acted on a precise intelligence tip-off indicating that a suspect, identified as Dineshbhai Umabhai Chaudhary, was systematically replacing genuine blood plasma bags with adulterated units before they reached the targeted pharmaceutical facility. Following strict surveillance, investigators uncovered how the logistics of the scam were executed. Chaudhary, who previously worked as a plasma collection executive for various pharmaceutical firms, allegedly leveraged his technical expertise to synthesise and package the counterfeit plasma mixtures. Two other suspects, Jitendra Solanki and Rafiq Khalifa, worked as co-drivers for the commercial vehicles tasked with collecting legitimate plasma units across various districts in Maharashtra. According to police reports, the drivers would tip off Chaudhary before arriving at the collection sites. Instead of driving directly to the pharmaceutical laboratory, the transport vehicles were diverted to the suspects' residence. There, the high-quality, genuine plasma bags were extracted for illicit resale, and the adulterated units were seamlessly slotted into the shipment.
Police Seizures and Arrests
A formal case was registered at the Changodar Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Given the severe implications for public safety, the case was transferred to SOG Police Sub-Inspector (PSI) P.N. Gohil for specialised investigation. Following a coordinated raid, the main mastermind was tracked down and apprehended in Maharashtra. During the operational raids, law enforcement personnel seized a wide array of equipment used to run the illicit packing station, including:
- 1,140 pieces of blood plasma units (valued at approximately INR 11 lakh)
- 1 commercial deep freezer
- 3 bottles of processing chemicals
- 1 industrial sealing machine
- 34 empty plasma bags
- 1 Mahindra Bolero pickup vehicle used for transportation
The four arrested individuals have been identified by authorities as:
- Dineshbhai Umabhai Chaudhary (Resident of Dhanera, Banaskantha district)
- Mohan Dajiba Gaikwad (Resident of Malegaon, Washim district, Maharashtra)
- Rafiqbhai Salambhai (Resident of Dholka, Ahmedabad district)
- Jitendrabhai Baldevbhai Solanki (Resident of Dholka, Ahmedabad district)
Ongoing Probe Into Public Health Risks
Blood plasma is a critical component used to manufacture life-saving therapies, immune globulins, and emergency transfusions. Adulterating these specialised biological products introduces severe risks of contamination, rendering treatments ineffective or toxic for patients in critical care. SOG officials confirmed that the suspects were placed in police custody following a successful remand application. The investigation remains active as authorities conduct deeper inquiries to identify potential institutional buyers of the stolen genuine plasma and determine if additional pharmaceutical employees or transport networks were complicit in the scam.
