Alandi Municipal Council in Pune district seals premises of local coaching academy a day after eight of its students drown in Raigad. The administrative action follows a tragic picnic excursion to Diveagar beach in coastal Raigad, where eight junior college students were swept away into deep waters by strong sea undercurrents.

The victims, studying in Classes 11 and 12 at Winners Academy in Alandi, were part of a 48-member tour group comprising 25 boys, 17 girls, and six teachers. The group had hired a private bus to visit the beach falling under the jurisdiction of the Dighi coastal police station. Shortly after their arrival on Thursday evening, eight students ventured into the sea to swim and drowned after misjudging the water depth and the force of the tide. Diveagar Beach Tragedy: 8 Pune Students Die After Drowning During School Picnic (Videos).

Following the incident, the Alandi Municipal Council moved swiftly on Friday to seal the coaching centre's premises. Civic officials noted that the academy was operating without a valid municipal licence for the past two years, prompting an immediate shutdown.

The municipal council has also initiated a wider inspection drive covering all private coaching classes and educational institutions operating in the temple town. Authorities stated that the inquiry will rigorously examine operating licences, safety compliances, and standard operating procedures governing student excursions, warning that any non-compliant institutes will face immediate closure.

The tragedy has prompted scrutiny into excursion arrangements and parental consent protocols. While students had reportedly submitted consent slips, investigators are examining the disclosures provided to parents regarding itineraries, beach supervision, and the deployment of qualified lifeguards.

Local fishermen, water sports operators, and coastal police teams conducted search-and-rescue operations on Thursday evening, retrieving all eight bodies from the sea. The deceased were taken to the primary health centre at Borli Panchatan before being handed over to their families following post-mortem examinations.
