Eight students from Pune died after drowning in the sea at Diveagar beach in Maharashtra’s Raigad district on Thursday while on a picnic organised by a private coaching institute. Police said all eight bodies have been recovered. The students were part of a 48-member group from Winners Academy in Alandi, Pune district. The group comprised 25 boys, 17 girls and six teachers and had travelled to Diveagar for a picnic. The students were from Classes 11 and 12.

Students Entered the Sea at Diveagar Beach

According to preliminary information from police, eight students entered the sea while the group was visiting Diveagar beach. They were swept away after misjudging the depth of the water and the sea current. The incident took place within the jurisdiction of the Dighi Coastal Police Station. Once the authorities were alerted, police personnel, local residents and water-sports workers joined the rescue operation. All Eight Bodies Recovered

Rescue teams recovered the bodies of all eight students from the sea. The bodies were taken to the Primary Health Centre at Borli Panchatan for post-mortem examinations and other required legal procedures. The deceased students have been identified as Tanmay Dattatray Vahile, Sumit Bharat Ahire, Pranav Ramdas Bansode, Kaivalya Satish Wasankar, Rajveer Yuvraj Vahile, Yash Kiran Wankhede, Soham Tukaram Bhandwalkar and Kaustubh Sandeep Daund.

Police Investigation Underway

Police and local authorities remained at the site following the incident and began the necessary legal and administrative procedures. The precise circumstances surrounding how the students entered the deeper section of the sea and the sequence of events leading to the drownings are being examined.
