Newlywed Flees With Cash, Jewellery; Poisoning Allegation Probed

The complainant, identified as Vikramjeet, alleged that the woman, Rekha, had informed him prior to their marriage that her divorce from a previous relationship was under process. Reports indicate that the two had signed a live-in relationship agreement on May 9 before getting married on May 26 at a Gurudwara. The woman was already married earlier and has two children from that relationship.

The complainant said he agreed to the marriage believing that the divorce formalities would be completed soon.

Alleged Poisoning and Theft

According to the family, the situation escalated shortly after the wedding, when the woman’s behaviour reportedly changed.

The complainant alleged that she mixed phenyl into food served to his mother. When the family rushed her to hospital for treatment, the accused allegedly took advantage of the situation to flee the house with cash and jewellery. Police have not yet confirmed the poisoning claim and are examining the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Family Alleges Extortion Threats

The victim’s family further claimed that when they contacted the woman’s relatives, they were met with threats and demands for money. According to the complaint, a relative of the accused allegedly demanded INR 3 lakh and warned of false police cases if the family pursued the matter. These claims are also part of the ongoing investigation, officials said.

Police said they are verifying all allegations, including the claims of theft, poisoning and intimidation. No arrests have been confirmed so far. Officials added that statements from both sides are being recorded, and evidence is being examined before further legal action is taken.
