In a shocking incident, Ranjay Baruah, a 55-year-old senior assistant with the Assam Agriculture Department, was found dead inside a washroom at the department's administrative building, Krishi Bhawan, in the Khanapara-Six Mile area of Guwahati on Thursday. The discovery triggered shock among staff members at the state office complex, where police teams were immediately dispatched to secure the premises and initiate an inquest.

According to a colleague, Baruah didn't return to his residence after leaving the office on Wednesday, NDTV reported. He arrived at the office without his mobile phone, staff members added. Family members had reportedly grown anxious when he could not be traced overnight, leading into Thursday morning when co-workers noticed his continuing absence. Assam: Man Accused of Beheading Wife Dies After Jumping From Moving Police Vehicle.

Rabin Malakar, a staff member of Krishi Bhawan, said that when he arrived at the office at around 10:20 am on Thursday, colleagues were discussing Baruah's absence since the previous day. The routine workday turned grim shortly after when staff began checking the administrative block.

Malakar said he later went to the washroom and found Baruah hanging inside. He immediately informed other staff members, following which the matter was reported to the police. Colleagues recalled him as an affable professional who showed no apparent outward signs of distress prior to the tragedy. "He was a good man, and there were no complaints against him. He was always cheerful. I saw him watching cricket on his mobile yesterday," Malakar said.

Police reached the spot and began an investigation into the incident. Forensic personnel and local police officers examined the scene before the body was sent for a post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause and time of death.

The circumstances surrounding Baruah's death are yet to be ascertained. Investigators are recording statements from office colleagues, administrative supervisors, and family members to determine if he was dealing with any personal difficulties or workplace-related pressures leading up to the incident.
