New Delhi, July 29:  Samajwadi Party MP Azam Khan is in trouble again after Police filed chargesheet against him in 13 more cases in connection with him making 'derogatory remarks'. According to a tweet by ANI, these 13 cases were filed during Lok Sabha polls 2019, which began on April 11 and ended on May 23, with the counting of votes. Reports inform that a chargesheet has also been filed against his son and SP MLA Abdullah Azam Khan for his remarks against Jaya Prada. Azam Khan Asked to Apologise For 'Sexist' Remark, If Not, Lok Sabha Speaker May Suspend Him: Report

Earlier this month, several FIRs were registered against Khan in connection with land encroachment cases in Rampur district of Uttar Pradesh. Police informed that the total number of FIRs against Khan in cases relating to land grab now stands at 26. Police said the complaints against him were verified and found to be genuine.

In a recent incident, an outrage erupted across the political spectrum after Khan's 'Khaki-undergarment' comment on BJP's Jaya Prada last week, for which the Samajwadi leader got pulled up by the Election Commission imposing a 72 campaigning ban.

Khan is no stranger to derogatory remarks. In another incident that sparked controversy, he made objectionable remarks against BJP MP Rama Devi when she was presiding over the House during the debate on the triple talaq bill. Khan, however, made remarks that were perceived to be sexist by the treasury benches, triggering strong objections. The Rampur MP, in his defence, had said Rama Devi was like a sister to him.”

During a discussion on the triple talaq bill on Thursday in Lok Sabha, Khan had referred to the intervention of Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and read out a couplet “… tu idhar-udhar ki baat na kar …” (do not divert from the topic). At this, Rama Devi, who was presiding over the proceedings, asked Khan not to “look here and there” and address the Chair. To this, Khan made sexist remarks at the Chair, triggering acrimonious scenes in the Parliament.

The incident sparked outrage across the political spectrum. Members in Lok Sabha condemned the remarks by Khan against the Bihar MP and demanded exemplary action against him. Meanwhile, Rama Devi had said that an apology was not enough and Khan should be suspended from the House for five years.
