The incident took place during a routine outdoor work detail on the prison's adjoining agricultural farm. The convict, identified as Dinesh, a resident of Amroha, was part of a group of 46 inmates assigned to the fields under the supervision of approximately ten prison staffers. Exploiting a temporary lapse in surveillance, Dinesh managed to scale the boundary wall and flee the premises undetected. A preliminary investigation into the security breach revealed that multiple guards deployed for surveillance were actively engaged on their mobile phones instead of monitoring the prisoners. Director General (Prisons) P.C. Meena confirmed the severe dereliction of duty, resulting in the immediate suspension of Jailer Neeraj Kumar, Deputy Jailer Vandana Choudhary, and seven lower-level staff members. Strict departmental action has also been recommended against Senior Jail Superintendent Avinash Gautam.
The escape marks the second major security breach at the Central Jail within the span of a year, following a similar incident where a murder convict briefly escaped before being recaptured.
