A 16-year-old class 12 student was rescued after being held captive for more than 24 hours in a rented flat in Dighori, Nagpur, with police uncovering evidence that points to a planned assault, officials said on Wednesday. Hudkeshwar police, who are investigating the case, said the accused allegedly kept the minor confined and subjected her to prolonged abuse before she was traced and rescued. The case has raised serious concerns around online grooming of minors through social media and gaming platforms.

What Police Found At The Flat

Investigators said the accused allegedly gave the teenager chocolates laced with drugs before subjecting her to sustained abuse and blackmail inside the rented flat, reported TOI. He allegedly filmed the incidents and was found in possession of explicit photographs and videos of the survivor, according to police sources. During the search, officers recovered s*x enhancing pills, sprays, three knives, handcuffs, a nylon rope and a metal studded leather belt, along with other items allegedly meant for use during the assault. Survivor's Statement Awaited

Nagpur Police Commissioner Vishwas Nangre Patil said investigators would record the survivor's detailed statement only after she becomes psychologically stable, given the trauma involved in the case. How The Accused Allegedly Targeted The Teenager

According to investigators, the accused first befriended the teenager through Instagram and an online gaming app before travelling to Nagpur after allegedly gathering details about her family. Digital evidence is being examined to establish whether the crime was premeditated.

Police Suspect Wider Pattern Of Grooming

During questioning of the survivor's three friends, police found that the accused had connected with all four girls through the same gaming app. He allegedly grew close to the survivor's best friend for close to a year before ending that association and shifting focus to the survivor, who is the daughter of a government official. Investigators believe the accused used a similar method with other girls as well, luring them into private chats, obtaining intimate photographs and then allegedly blackmailing them. Police are now probing whether more victims exist as part of what they suspect is a serial pattern of online grooming.
