The deceased have been identified as Sumanth, a civil engineering graduate from Dakshina Kannada, and his 29-year-old wife Padmavathi, a software professional from Hubballi. Argument Turns Violent
According to police, the couple had an argument at their residence in Rajeshwari Nagar, Hegganahalli, on Wednesday night. The dispute allegedly escalated, with Sumanth assaulting Padmavathi and then suffocating her with a pillow.
Police said Padmavathi lost consciousness following the assault. Sumanth allegedly realised that she was not breathing when he attempted to wake her. Message To Mother Leads To Discovery
After the incident, Sumanth allegedly called his mother and told her what had happened. He later sent her a message indicating that he intended to die. His mother alerted the landlord after seeing the message. When the residence was opened, Sumanth was found hanging from a ceiling fan in the hall, while Padmavathi was found dead inside the house.
Police Begin Investigation
The Rajagopal Nagar Police reached the residence after being alerted and registered a case. The bodies were shifted to Victoria Hospital for post-mortem examination, India Today reported.
Investigators are now examining the circumstances of the domestic dispute, the events that followed the alleged assault and the exact sequence in which the two deaths occurred. Police have said that the precise cause of Padmavathi's death remains to be established.
The investigation is ongoing, and police are expected to examine available evidence, including statements from family members and others connected with the couple, as they reconstruct the events leading to the deaths.
