The victim, identified as Anjali, had been in a relationship with the accused, Rajeev, for the past three to four years. According to police, the two met while working together and had planned to get married. However, Anjali's family reportedly opposed the relationship because of Rajeev's background. Investigators said Rajeev had repeatedly tried to convince Anjali and her family to approve the marriage. In recent days, Anjali had allegedly started distancing herself from him after giving in to pressure from her parents, leading to growing tensions between the couple.
On Sunday evening, Rajeev allegedly invited Anjali for dinner, hoping to persuade her once again. During the meeting, the conversation reportedly escalated into a heated argument over their future. Police said Anjali walked away from the spot, but Rajeev allegedly followed her and attacked her with a knife he had brought along, stabbing her in the neck. Locals immediately rushed the injured woman to a nearby hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
Police reached the scene soon after receiving information about the incident and arrested Rajeev within minutes. Anjali's body has been shifted to MS Ramaiah Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
A case has been registered, and police are investigating the sequence of events, including the circumstances that led to the fatal attack. Further legal action against the accused is underway.
