Bengaluru Man Dies After Setting Off Bomb in Uber Cab to Die With Ex-Girlfriend; She Jumps Out (Watch Video)

A 30-year-old man was killed on Saturday after an explosive device detonated inside a moving app-based cab on National Highway-48 near Jogihalli in Tumakuru district. The blast occurred moments after a woman, whom the man had allegedly abducted from Bengaluru earlier that morning, managed to escape from the vehicle. The deceased has been identified as Nagendra. According to the police, Nagendra and the woman, an operation theatre (OT) technician based in Bengaluru, were previously in a relationship but had recently separated due to personal differences.

The incident began on Saturday morning when Nagendra allegedly confronted the woman at her rented accommodation in Bengaluru's Jayanagar neighborhood. Following an argument, he reportedly forced her into a yellow-board Uber cab. After she went missing, her parents filed a kidnapping complaint at the Jayanagar Police Station. During the journey toward Ankola, Nagendra reportedly threatened to kill the woman and end his own life, revealing that he was carrying an explosive device. Investigators state that the situation escalated near Jogihalli in Sira taluk when Nagendra allegedly attacked the woman with a knife inside the vehicle. The cab driver, identified as Praveen, immediately brought the vehicle to a halt. This allowed the woman to unlock the door and leap to safety.

Moments after her escape, a powerful explosion ripped through the car, engulfing it in flames. Nagendra was trapped inside the burning vehicle and died at the scene. The explosion caused severe damage to the car and triggered a traffic jam stretching over a kilometer on the busy highway. Both the woman and the cab driver sustained injuries during the ordeal and were rushed to the Tumakuru District Hospital for medical treatment.

Tumakuru Superintendent of Police Ashok K.V. stated that preliminary findings indicate Nagendra was carrying an explosive device and intentionally triggered the blast. The Kallambella police have registered a case and launched a comprehensive investigation to determine the exact nature of the explosives, how they were detonated, and where Nagendra procured them.
