The Bengaluru Traffic Police has issued a public advisory warning residents of possible traffic disruptions, waterlogging and delays after the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) forecast heavy rainfall across the city between June 7 and June 9, 2026.

The advisory comes as the southwest monsoon continues to advance across southern India, bringing increased rainfall activity to Karnataka. Authorities have urged commuters to exercise caution, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone areas, and avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall. Bengaluru Weather Forecast & Update for Today, Sunday, 07 June 2026: Overcast Skies and 96% Rain Chance.

Bengaluru Police Issue Traffic Advisory

Bengaluru Traffic Advisory Amid Heavy Rains Alert

According to the traffic police, heavy showers over the next three days could significantly affect traffic movement in several parts of the city. Waterlogged roads, slower vehicle movement, traffic congestion and travel delays are expected if rainfall intensifies. Motorists have been advised to remain alert to changing road conditions and drive cautiously in areas affected by flooding.

Officials have specifically warned against attempting to cross submerged roads, as water depth and road conditions may be difficult to assess during heavy rain. El Niño 2026: Can the Strongest Event on Record Weaken India’s Monsoon?

Police Issue Safety Advisory for Commuters

In its statement, the Bengaluru Traffic Police urged residents to prioritise safety while travelling and cooperate with traffic personnel deployed across the city. Citizens have also been encouraged to monitor official updates before planning their journeys.

The department said real-time information on traffic conditions, diversions and emergency alerts will be made available through its official communication channels.

Use BTP ASTraM App for Live Traffic Updates

The Bengaluru Traffic Police has advised commuters to use the BTP ASTraM App for real-time traffic information during the rainfall period. The application provides updates on road closures, diversions, congestion hotspots and emergency notifications that may help residents choose safer travel routes.

Officials said the department's social media platforms will also share regular alerts and updates as weather conditions evolve.

A rainfall forecast map released along with the advisory indicates varying levels of precipitation across Bengaluru Urban district during the three-day period.

While some areas may initially experience light to moderate rainfall, weather officials have indicated that rainfall intensity could increase as the weather system strengthens. Authorities are closely monitoring developments and have begun preparations to manage traffic challenges caused by water accumulation on roads.

Monsoon Advances Across Southern India

The warning coincides with the continued advance of the southwest monsoon across the country.

According to the latest bulletin from the India Meteorological Department, the monsoon has progressed into parts of Karnataka, Goa, Tamil Nadu, the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal.

Weather conditions remain favourable for further advancement into Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and parts of northeastern India in the coming days.

Why Bengaluru Issues Rain Advisories

Bengaluru has historically experienced traffic disruptions and waterlogging during periods of heavy rainfall, particularly in low-lying areas and major traffic corridors.

To minimise risks and improve traffic management, authorities routinely issue precautionary advisories ahead of significant rainfall events during the monsoon season. Officials have appealed to residents to remain vigilant, follow weather and traffic advisories, and plan travel accordingly over the next few days.

Key Advice for Commuters

  • Avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain.
  • Drive cautiously through waterlogged areas.
  • Do not attempt to cross submerged roads.
  • Check traffic conditions before leaving home.
  • Use the BTP ASTraM App for live updates.
  • Follow Bengaluru Traffic Police social media channels for alerts and advisories.
  • Cooperate with traffic personnel deployed across the city.

With heavy rainfall expected through June 9, authorities are urging residents to stay informed and prioritise safety while travelling across Bengaluru.
