Mumbai, August 31: The Maharashtra Police on Friday held a briefing on Bhima Koregaon violence case and informed a big controversy was being plotted by Maoist organisations. The Police informed all the documents that were seized are being analysed and it was found that they have proofs that the accused have strong links with Maoists. The Maharashtra Police further informed in the press briefing that the main aim of the Bhima Koregaon violence was to disrupt the law and order of the state government.

The probe into the caste riots in Bhima Koregaon, 40 kilometres from Pune, earlier had indicated two possibilities- one indicating Maoists involvement and the other being about the role of members associated with Hindutva outfits.

Param Bir Singh, ADG of Maharashtra Police informed that the Police was confident that clear links have been established and only then moved to take action against these people, in different cities. Singh said the evidence clearly establishes their roles with Maoists. "The accused were helping them to take their goals forward. A terrorist org was also involved. On 17 May, sections under Unlawful Activities(Prevention) Act were imposed", Singh informed.

"Case was registered on 8 Jan about an incident of 31 Dec 2017 where hate speeches were delivered. Sections were imposed for spreading hatred. An investigation was conducted. Almost all the accused were associated with Kabir Kala Manch", Singh added.

The three accused civil rights activists namely Vernon Gosalves, Arun Ferreira and Varavara Rao were arrested in connection to their involvement in the Bhima-Koregaon violence in 2017. These three are active members of the banned organisation, Communist Party of India (Maoist).

On Tuesday, the Pune police conducted raids in different parts of the country and arrested five accused activists in connection violence case. Out of the five, three were produced before Pune sessions court. Vernon Gosalves was arrested from Mumbai, Arun Ferreira from Thane, whereas Varavara Rao was arrested from Hyderabad.
