The incident triggered protests by doctors and nursing staff, who suspended work and demonstrated outside the hospital's main gate, demanding the immediate arrest of the accused and enhanced security for healthcare workers.
Dispute Broke Out During Patient's Treatment
According to the complaint, a patient identified as Laxmi Tiwari was brought to the hospital at around 2 am on Thursday. Hospital staff alleged they had received repeated phone calls regarding the patient's treatment even before she arrived. During the treatment, two men accompanying the patient allegedly behaved aggressively with the medical staff. When doctors and nurses objected, they were allegedly threatened. The complainant alleged that one of the men, identified as Anil Shrivastava (also known as Anil Pipra), inappropriately touched a female staff member and threatened to shoot the medical personnel outside the hospital. Doctors Stage Protest, Demand Arrest
Following the incident, doctors and nursing staff staged a protest, alleging that although police reached the hospital after being informed, no immediate action was taken as the accused had already left the premises.
The Junior Doctors Association (JDA), Madhya Pradesh, condemned the alleged misconduct and demanded the arrest of the accused within 24 hours. The association also called for stronger security arrangements inside hospitals and warned of a statewide work boycott if prompt action was not taken.
The protesting doctors demanded:
- Immediate arrest of the accused and strict legal action.
- Increased deployment of security personnel inside the hospital.
- Permanent measures to ensure the safety of healthcare workers, especially women on night duty.
BJP Leader Denies Allegations
Anil Shrivastava, a member of the BJP Yuva Morcha state executive committee, denied the allegations.
He said he had visited the hospital only to inquire about a patient from his village and had requested doctors to provide timely treatment. Shrivastava denied misbehaving with any doctor or nursing staff and urged authorities to examine CCTV footage from the hospital ward.
Police Register FIR
Additional Superintendent of Police Narendra Solanki confirmed that an FIR had been registered based on the complaint.
Police have booked Anil Shrivastava and Laxmi Tiwari. A case, including charges related to outraging the modesty of a woman, has been registered at Gopalganj Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
