Char Dham Yatra Resumes After Rain, Landslide Disruptions; Officials Say Routes Being Closely Monitored

The Char Dham Yatra resumed on Tuesday, July 21, after a temporary suspension caused by continuous rainfall and landslides in Uttarakhand, officials said. The pilgrimage, which was halted on Monday as a precautionary measure, restarted after authorities reviewed the condition of travel routes and assessed safety arrangements.

Char Dham Yatra Routes Being Monitored Continuously

Garhwal Commissioner Anand Swaroop said travel routes connected with the Char Dham Yatra are being monitored regularly, with special attention being given to vulnerable areas. He said the pilgrimage is being managed with coordination among all departments involved in route safety and emergency response. "The travel routes are being continuously monitored, and special vigilance is being maintained in vulnerable areas," Swaroop said.

Pilgrims Advised to Follow Safety Instructions

He said that if routes become temporarily blocked due to heavy rainfall, landslides or other reasons, pilgrims should stay at safe locations or designated "holding areas" until movement becomes safe. According to him, the journey will resume only after conditions return to normal.

Safety Remains Top Priority

Emphasising the importance of pilgrim safety, Swaroop said all departments have been directed to maintain constant monitoring of weather conditions and travel routes.

He added that officials have been instructed to remain prepared to take immediate action if any emergency situation arises during the pilgrimage.

The Char Dham Yatra includes visits to the four major Himalayan shrines of Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath, which attract thousands of pilgrims every year.
