Chennai, September 25: In a shocking incident, a 35-year-old auto-rickshaw driver was assaulted by three school students after he had scolded them the previous evening for rash driving. The auto driver later died of a heart attack. According to The New Indian Express, Dilip Kumar was driving back to his home in Tamil Nadu's Chengalpattu on Monday when the trio, all in school uniform, while rash driving brushed against his auto.
Angry over the deep scratch on his vehicle, Kumar chased the boys and managed to confront them. He asked the boys to compensate. However, the three juveniles refused to pay, leading to an argument, The New Indian Express reported. The students started beating Dilip with logs and stones lying on the road. As Dilip slumped to the ground with injuries on his head, one of the students got into his vehicle and drove off. While the others followed him on their bike. A passerby informed the cops, who took him to the police station to register a complaint.
On reaching, Dilip complained of dizziness and chest pain. He was taken to the Chengalpet government hospital, where he died. The doctors told cops that he died of a heart attack due to the assault.
According to the Times of India, police immediately launched a search operation and found his autorickshaw abandoned in Alapakkam. With the help of CCTV footage, the assaulters were identified and arrested.
