A woman’s body was transported home in a tractor-trolley reportedly used for garbage collection after her family allegedly failed to get a hearse at Badamalhara in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhatarpur district. The incident came to light after the woman, identified as Rukhsana Khan, was found dead in two parts in a garbage heap on Wednesday, August 5.

Rukhsana, wife of Bablesh Ahirwar, was taken to Badamalhara hospital for postmortem after her body was recovered from a garbage heap on Surajpura Road under Badamalhara police station. Her family later waited for a hearse to take the body home but was reportedly unable to arrange one. Madhya Pradesh: 21-Year-Old Patient Dies in Ambulance After Oxygen Supply Runs Out Mid-Journey.

Woman Had Been Missing Since July 4

Police said Rukhsana had been missing since July 4. Her body was found in two parts by local residents in a garbage heap on Surajpura Road on Wednesday. Police reached the spot after receiving information and began an investigation.

Town Inspector Rita Singh said, "Rukhsana Khan was first married to a man from Mahoba, Uttar Pradesh, and later to Bablesh Ahirwar, a resident of Surajpur Road". She said police immediately rushed to the spot after information was received that Rukhsana's body was found by some locals in a garbage heap. Madhya Pradesh Horror: Doctor Leaves Surgical Napkin in Female Patient’s Stomach in Khargone, Probe Ordered.

"Police inspected the spot, took the body into custody, and began an investigation. Since the body was found in two parts, it is suspected Rukhsana might have been murdered. The body was sent for postmortem examination, the report of which will reveal the exact cause of death," Rita said.

Family Waited For Hearse

After the postmortem, Rukhsana’s family reached the hospital to collect her body. Bablesh said the family waited for hours for a hearse before the body was eventually transported home in a municipal tractor-trolley that he claimed was used for garbage disposal.

Bablesh said, "After receiving information from the police, we arrived at the hospital to collect my wife's body. We had to wait for hours for a hearse. The hospital then sent her body home in a municipal tractor-trolley used for garbage disposal. I was married 10 years ago. My wife had remarried. Every person deserves respect, if not in life, then after death. But it was very distressing to see Rukhsana's body being transported in a garbage vehicle after postmortem."

The incident has raised questions over the availability of basic mortuary and patient-support services at the government hospital.

Hospital Says Hearse Not Available

Badamalhara BMO Dr Hemant Maraiya said the hospital had repeatedly sought a hearse at district-level meetings.

"The request for a hearse for the Civil Hospital, Badamalhara, has been placed several times at district-level meetings. However, due to lack of budget or related funds, the vehicle has not been made available to the hospital. We hope that a hearse will be arranged for the hospital soon."

The hospital has said the absence of a dedicated hearse is linked to a lack of budget or related funds.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding Rukhsana’s death. The fact that her body was found in two parts has led investigators to suspect that she may have been murdered. The postmortem report is expected to establish the exact cause of death.

Chhatarpur Collector Mrinal Meena said an investigation had been launched into the incident and that anyone found guilty would be punished. The investigation into both the woman’s death and the circumstances surrounding the transportation of her body is underway.
