Shahjahanpur, September 25: The law student who accused Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Chinmayanand of rape was arrested by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) on Wednesday for alleged extortion. The woman was arrested from her home and was taken to the Kotwali police station. On Tuesday, a local court in Shahjahanpur admitted an anticipatory bail petition filed by the student. The court will hear the plea on September 26. The student was questioned by the SIT yesterday also. Uttar Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) OP Singh said, "The law student, who had accused Swami Chinmayanand for sexually harassing her, has been arrested by the SIT for allegedly trying to extort money from him."

Meanwhile, the court on Tuesday had rejected the bail application of other three men -- Sanjay, Sachin, and Vikram – who were arrested on the extortion charges, which was filed by Chinmayanand. According to IANS, The woman and three men, had allegedly made extortion calls to the BJP leader asking him to pay Rs five crore or else they would make public his intimate videos.

Chinmayanand was arrested by the SIT of UP Police from his residence Divya Dham on September 20. The former union minister was sent to 14-day judicial custody in connection with the case. The BJP leader accused of raping a law student, admitted to all the sexual harassment charges against him.
