New Delhi, November 28: Airports in Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad will start testing a new 3D-based computed tomography (CT) scanner which will save passengers from the trouble of taking out laptops and electronic gadgets for screening before boarding a flight. According to a report published in The Times of India, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has given its approval for the new technology. With the adoption of the 3-D based computed tomography (CT) scanner for screening at the airports, India will join the list of counties like the US, UK, Netherlands and Israel who are already using this technology. It speeds up p security checks without compromising on security. Presently, the screening of in-flight bags is done using x-ray scanning machines at all Indian airports. Delhi's IGI Airport Breaks Into World's Top 20 Busiest.

Last year, the Central Reserve Industrial Force (CISF) started an initiated to do away with the practice of stamping and tagging passengers' hand baggage. Till now, 49 out of 60 airports secured by the CISF are now tag-free. The new travel regime for air passengers was launched in April last year by the federal civil airports guarding force in consultation with the Civil Aviation Ministry and the BCAS.
