Background and Context of the Agitation
The planned Jantar Mantar demonstration was organised by the CJP and several student bodies to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Delhi Police had officially denied permission for the gathering, citing public safety concerns, traffic disruptions, and short notification time. With heavy barricading and transit restrictions in place across central Delhi, security forces continue to maintain a strict vigil at all entry points into the capital.
