CJP Legal Head Ratna Singh Detained Inside Car Surrounded by 35 Cops and DCP Ahead of Jantar Mantar Protest (Video)
CJP legal head Ratna Singh claimed Delhi Police detained her inside a car surrounded by 35 officers and a DCP, ahead of a Jantar Mantar protest against the CEC. She said officers lacked a notice and cited 'orders from above'. Other CJP leaders and Dhruv Rathee were also detained in a broader preventive crackdown.
Ratna Singh, legal affairs head of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), said she was being held by Delhi Police inside a car surrounded by officers on Saturday morning, October 10, ahead of the group’s planned protest at Jantar Mantar. The CJP account posted that Singh was surrounded by around 35 police personnel, including a Deputy Commissioner of Police, who refused to allow her to leave. The party said officers were moving her toward the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s court. Singh posted a video from the scene quoting a line about liberty and tyranny.
What Singh and CJP Alleged
Singh said police had come to her residence earlier that morning. When asked for an official notice, officers produced none and stated they had “orders from above” to detain her. She refused to exit the vehicle. Officers, she said, repeatedly asked her to get out so they could hold her at her home. Broader Detentions Before the Protest
The episode forms part of wider police action in the capital. CJP leaders Abhijeet Dipke, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were detained after their flight from Mumbai landed at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. YouTuber Dhruv Rathee was also reported detained from his residence in Gurugram. Delhi Police said they had detained around 500 people who arrived in groups from different places, along with nearly 50 individuals with prior criminal records, as a preventive measure. Reports indicated more than 1,000 people had been held overnight in some accounts. 'KK Create' Aka Kavya Karnatac, Other Content Creators Detained Ahead of CJP Protest in Delhi (Video).
Context of the Planned Gathering
CJP had called for a protest at Jantar Mantar demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The group has alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls and related changes to voter registration forms. Police had denied permission for the gathering, citing procedural issues, past violations and public safety concerns. Heightened security measures, including barricades and additional personnel, were in place across the city. The legal basis for the specific detentions of Singh and the other lawyers has not been independently confirmed in available reports. Police sources described the overall situation in the capital as under control, with limited numbers of protesters gathering at various points.
