Central government employees and pensioners continue to await the July 2026 Dearness Allowance (DA) hike as the Centre has yet to make an official announcement. Expectations of a decision in October have remained unfulfilled, leaving millions of employees and pensioners waiting for the next revision of Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief (DR).

The July 2026 DA revision is due to take effect retrospectively from July 1, 2026. Based on inflation trends, a 3 percentage point increase is being projected, which would raise the DA rate from 60% to 63% of basic pay. However, the proposed hike has not been officially approved or announced, and the final percentage will depend on the government's decision.

July 2026 DA Hike Latest Update

The wait for the DA hike has continued despite the Centre announcing bonuses for eligible government employees earlier this month. Railway employees received the performance-linked bonus announcement on October 14, followed by non-performance-linked bonus orders for other central government personnel on October 16. Neither announcement included a DA revision. DA Hike 2027: Dearness Allowance May Rise to 67%, Know How Much Salary Could Increase.

The expected announcement also did not materialise before the Dussehra holiday on October 20. Employees are now awaiting an official notification from the Union government.

DA Hike 2026: Expected Increase and Current Rate

Central government employees currently receive Dearness Allowance at 60% of their basic pay following a 2 percentage point increase approved in April 2026. DA Hike Full List 2026: Check State-Wise Dearness Allowance and Relief Updates for Employees and Pensioners.

The July 2026 revision is calculated using the 12-month average of the All India Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (AICPI-IW), covering July 2025 to June 2026. Based on the available inflation data, a 3 percentage point increase is anticipated.

If approved, the DA rate would rise to 63% of basic pay. The corresponding Dearness Relief revision would benefit eligible central government pensioners. The projected increase remains unconfirmed until the Centre issues an official order.

Employee Unions Demand Immediate DA Hike Announcement

The delay has prompted protests by employee associations. On October 16, the Confederation of Central Government Employees and Workers organised nationwide lunch-hour demonstrations to demand the announcement of the pending DA instalment.

In a representation dated October 14, the confederation urged the Cabinet Secretary to notify the pending Dearness Allowance for employees and Dearness Relief for pensioners. The association highlighted that the revision is due from July 1, 2026.

When Will the July 2026 DA Hike Be Announced?

The Centre has not announced a confirmed date for the July 2026 DA hike. Employees and pensioners are awaiting a formal decision, either through the expected government approval process or an official notification from the Ministry of Finance.

If approved, the revision would be effective retrospectively from July 1, 2026, with eligible beneficiaries receiving the applicable revised allowance and arrears. Until an official announcement is issued, the expected 3% increase should be treated as a projection rather than a confirmed decision.
