The incident occurred in the Rajpur town of the district when Javed Khan, a resident of Nai Basti, bought an ₹80 packet of snacks meant for children from a shop along Mughal Road. Khan stated that he opened the packet outside the store and began eating before spotting the dead rodent mixed in with the food.
Following the discovery, Khan confronted the shopkeeper and showed him the contaminated packet in front of onlookers. Emphasizing the potential health hazards had the contaminated product been consumed without notice, he formally requested urgent action from the local administration. "The matter of a dead baby rat being found inside a packet of snacks has come to my notice," said Ram Avtar, Additional Food Commissioner for Kanpur Dehat. "I have sent a team along with the Regional Food Officer to investigate the matter. After the investigation, a notice will be issued to the owners of the company whose product is involved, if required."

Further regulatory action will be taken based on the team's final findings.
