New Delhi, July 15: A 17-year-old Girl has committed suicide at Tilak Vihar police station in Delhi on Sunday morning over an alleged relationship with a local boy. Mother aaccused that their neighbour had abducted her daughter because they wanted their son to marry her, but she had refused as the girl was minor. She further added that police had called her there. And on reaching there she saw her daughter hanging in one room and her three sons locked in another room.

The 17-year-old girl came to the police station at 2:00 am and refused to go back home. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) west Vijay Kumar said, “At 2 am she came to police station and said she doesn't want to go to her home. There was no lady constable at that time. By the time someone was called, families started quarrelling at the station. The girl went to the adjacent room and hanged herself. The magisterial inquiry is underway."

According to a report published in Hindustan Times, the girl had befriended the 20-year-old boy, a neighbour in Tilak Vihar. Both the families did not approve the relationship and that led to frequent quarrels between them. On Saturday, the two families reached the police station around 10:30 pm after indulging in a fight. The girl and her male friend did not accompany their families.

The DCP told Hindustan Times, “She said she did not want to return with her mother and brother. She said that they would beat her. The local police decided to send her to a Nari Niketan (shelter for women).” When the police were busy in dealing with a relative form boy’s side who accused that the girl’s family brutally assaulted him, the girl locked herself in a room at the post. When the police broke open the door, they found her hanging. A magisterial enquiry has been ordered in the case. The police’s vigilance unit has also initiated a probe into the incident.
