New Delhi, August 6: In a shocking incident, a jilted lover in the national capital allegedly shot a 24-year-old woman after being angry as the woman had reportedly rejected his marriage proposal. Reports inform that the man took the extreme step as the engagement of the girl- who works as a chartered accountant for a private company in Gurugram, was fixed with someone else. According to reports, the incident took place in northwest Delhi’s Ashok Vihar Phase-IV on Saturday. Hours after the incident, the man was arrested from Shahdara.
The bullet grazed past the victim’s chest and did not pierce her skin. “A man allegedly shot at a 24-year-old woman in Delhi's Bharat Nagar area after she broke up with him, police said.
Reports inform that after hearing the gunshots, the victim's relatives rushed to the spot and took her to a hospital. According to a report by PTI, the two were in a relationship but the woman ended it. Police informed that the man attacked the victim at her relative's house.
The condition of the woman, who is a chartered accountant, is stable. The relatives of the victim informed that the accused, who works with a jagran mandal, had been harassing the woman. A report by Hindustan Times states that the accused has been identified as 30-year-old Harish Sharma. The report further informed that a CCTV camera installed in the victim’s neighbourhood recorded Sharma fleeing the crime spot.
Reports informed that the woman survived as the bullet allegedly grazed past her body, causing injuries to her chest. Police said the crime was reported to the police around 10.30pm. A case of attempt to murder was registered at the Bharat Nagar police station. The Police have initiated an investigation into the matter. The report informed that during the probe, the woman’s family members said the accused had been ‘stalking’ and ‘threatening to kill’ the girl for some months.
