Srinagar, February 5: An earthquake measuring 5.6 on Richter scale has hit Jammu and Kashmir Kashmir today around 10 pm. However, no casualty or damage to property has been reported from the area. Former chief minister of the state Omar Abdullah also tweeted about the earthquake. Earthquake in Palghar: Five Tremors Experienced in 24 Hours, Panic Among Locals.

According to reports, tremors were also felt in Delhi-NCR. More details are still awaited. Meanwhile, earlier today, a low-intensity earthquake hit Himachal Pradesh's Mandi district. According to initial reports, an earthquake of magnitude 3.8 struck Mandi district at 7:33 pm.

The entire state of Jammu and Kashmir falls in the zone IV and V.  Due to this and is vulnerable to natural disasters particularly earthquakes. A 4.6-magnitude earthquake also hit the state's  Ladakh region on January 10.
