Palghar, February 1: Five strong tremors measuring between 3-3.5 on the Richter scale were experienced in Maharashtra's Palghar district on Friday. The region has been experiencing such tremors routinely since November last year. The recent quake of 4.1 magnitude hit the region at around 14:06 hrs on February 1. According to reports, the tremors were felt at 6:58 am, 10:03 am and 10:29 am and were measured at 3.3, 3.5 and 3.0 on the Richter scale respectively, the MeT official said. "Earthquake of Magnitude:4.1, Occurred on:01-02-2019, 14:06:24 IST, Lat:19.9 N & Long: 72.8 E, Depth: 05 Km, Region:Distt. Palghar, Maharashtra", the IMD tweeted. Earthquake of 3.6 Magnitude Shakes Palghar District of Maharashtra. 

In a series of tweets, the IMD gave details of the four major quakes that hit the Palghar region on Friday. K S Hosalikar, Dy Director General of Meteorology, India Met Department, Mumbai said tremors were felt in Dahanu and Talasari talukas of the district. There were no reports of casualties or damage caused to properties.

According to experts, Palghar is prone to earthquakes as the region falls under seismic zone number 3. On January 21, an earthquake of magnitude 3.0 on the Richter scale hit Palghar region. This was the second tremor within three hours that struck the region but fortunately. On January 20, a 3.6 magnitude quake hit Palghar region and tremors were registered in and around Dundalwadi near Dahanu.
