Engineering Student Raped, Burnt, Hung From Tree in Karnataka's Raichur

Raichur, April 19: In a barbaric incident, a burnt body of 22-year-old engineering student was found hanging from a tree in a forest on April 15 in Karnataka's Raichur district. The girl was missing since April 13. The police officials have recovered a suicide note in which the engineering student stated that she committed suicide because of depression.

The girl's family, however, has denied the suicide alarm and alleged that she was raped, burnt and then hanged to the tree. According to Raichur Superintendent of Police (SP) Kishore Babu, the suicide note said that she scored fewer marks in the exams and held no one responsible for her death. The incident has taken social media by storm and an online petition on Change.org has gained more than 1.24 lakh signatures already. A protest also broke out in a Raichur college on Thursday after the incident was reported.
