Tamil Nadu, January 6: The Madras High Court acquitted a man in a false rape case, citing that the woman admitted filing a fake complaint. According to a Times of India report, the prosecution alleged that Subramanian and the woman, who was the complainant are relatives and that he had raped her before they got married. It was further stated by the prosector that the appellant's parents abused and tortured her for dowry.

A lower court had convicted and sentenced the appellant to 10 years of imprisonment under IPC 376 (rape). Justice Kumar observed that the woman had filed a fake rape case in order to unite with the appellant, who was also her husband. The judge further found out that the woman had expressed her desire to settle the matter. The judge observed that according to the report of the radiologist, the woman was between 18 and 19 years of age at the time of the incident. So he had a physical relationship with the woman with her consent.
