The Supreme Court on Monday directed the Delhi Police to take proactive measures to prevent s*xual crimes and said the police must create fear among those who are prone to committing such offences. The remarks came during the court’s hearing of rape cases reported in Delhi and surrounding areas.

The Supreme Court said police action should be strong enough to deter potential offenders from committing s*xual crimes. Referring to the need for deterrence, the court said there should be a clear message to such elements that they would face severe consequences if they committed s*xual offences.

Supreme Court Questions Delhi Police

The court also questioned the Delhi Police over the gang rape of a woman at a park in south Delhi. The incident took place barely 2 km from a girls' college, prompting the Supreme Court to ask what proactive steps had been taken by the police. Minor Girl Allegedly Raped at Delhi Hotel by Man She Met Through Social Media.

The Supreme Court observed that people had allegedly warned the police about the criminal elements involved in the case.

"It has been said people warned you about these people even in this unfortunate case," the court said. Delhi Park Gang-Rape: 17-Year-Old Girl Allegedly Gangraped in Aastha Kunj Park.

The Supreme Court has been hearing the matter on its own initiative following a series of rape cases reported in Delhi and nearby areas, including the alleged gang rape of a minor on a sleeper bus.

‘Ab Kuch Kia Toh Mar Jaenge’

During the hearing, the Supreme Court stressed that police action should create a deterrent effect among potential s*xual offenders. The court said the message should effectively be: "Ab kuch kia toh mar jaenge" or that those committing such crimes would face serious consequences.

The observations came amid the court's scrutiny of law enforcement measures and the response of the Delhi Police to s*xual crimes in the national capital.
