Guwahati, September 14: Two weeks after the National Register of Citizens (NRC) list was released, the Assam government has now published the list online on Saturday. The list was released on August 31. Over 19 lakh out of 3.30 crore applicants were left out of the final NRC list. Meanwhile, appeals of those who were declared as illegal citizens are still pending. The first part of the draft NRC, called Part Draft NRC, was published in December, 2017 and included the names of 1.9 crore people out of the 3.29 crore applicants, leaving 1.30 crore out. The final draft of the NRC, which was released in July this year, contained 2.9 crore names, while 40.07 lakh were excluded. NRC Final List 2019 Goes Live at nrcassam.nic.in And thefinalnrc.com.

The process of updation of NRC is being carried out by the Registrar General of India, and is being monitored by the Supreme Court. The top court in July had extended the date to release the final NRC list from July 31 to August 31.

The Assam government will set up an adequate number of Foreigners' Tribunals (FT) at convenient locations and would also make arrangements to provide legal aid to the needy people amongst those excluded from the NRC. The government had assured that the people left out of the final NRC will not be detained, and they can appeal against their exclusion in the FT and subsequently move higher courts.
