The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has initiated strict penal proceedings and legal action against a Bengaluru-based healthcare and nutraceutical firm following targeted inspections that uncovered misbranded and expired infant nutrition products. Acting on regulatory non-compliance, food safety authorities seized a substantial quantity of misbranded baby food from M/s British Lifesciences Pvt. Ltd. and ordered the destruction of 3.7 metric tonnes of expired infant food products under court directions.

According to statement details from the Food Safety and Drugs Administration, the expired stock was disposed of under controlled conditions to prevent its reintroduction, diversion, or reuse within the supply chain. Regulatory officials emphasized that the stringent enforcement actions reflect the government's commitment to safeguarding infant health and enforcing compliance under the Food Safety and Standards (FSS) Act, 2006. The crackdown on the Bengaluru healthcare firm comes on the heels of a massive, statewide food safety drive conducted across Karnataka in August. During that campaign, state officials inspected over 600 Anganwadi centers, hundreds of student hostels, school canteens, e-commerce warehouses, highway dhabas, and high-end hotels to enforce hygiene standards and eliminate the use of unsafe additives.
