Milky Mist Clarifies No FSSAI or State Notice Received Over Paneer Quality Inquiries

Tamil Nadu-based value-added dairy products manufacturer Milky Mist has clarified in a regulatory filing to stock exchanges that it has not received any notice from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) or the Tamil Nadu Food Safety Department regarding an inquiry into its paneer products.

The company issued the formal statement following recent media reports alleging that central food safety authorities had instructed state officials to collect and test samples of Milky Mist paneer over quality concerns, reports the National Stock Exchange. Ayodhya Ram Temple Receives FSSAI's 'Eat Right Place of Worship' Certification.

Company Response to Quality Reports

Addressing the reports circulating across media platforms, Milky Mist outlined its stance regarding regulatory communication and compliance. In a statement shared with the stock exchanges, the company stated: "In this regard, the Company wishes to clarify that, as at the date and time of this disclosure, it has not received any specific notice, order or communication from FSSAI or the Tamil Nadu Food Safety Department directing an inquiry into the Company's Paneer products, as alleged in the aforesaid media reports".

Milky Mist further added, “The company will appropriately respond to any communication received from the concerned authorities and take necessary action, if any, in accordance with applicable law.” The clarification comes after media reports last week alleged that the Central Food Safety Department had directed the Tamil Nadu Food Safety Department to submit samples of Milky Mist’s paneer for laboratory testing following reports of poor quality. FSSAI Energy Drink Label Ban: Reliance, PepsiCo and Monster Get Interim Stay From Delhi High Court.

Previous Regulatory Actions and Seizures

The recent reports follow separate regulatory actions involving dairy products and distributors in recent weeks. On September 23, news agency PTI reported that the FSSAI initiated action against quick-commerce platforms Swiggy Instamart and BigBasket over misleading claims and non-compliant product information related to specific Milky Mist dairy items. The products cited in the report included 'Milky Mist Fresh Low Fat Cream, Milky Mist Farm Fresh Curd, and Milky Mist Greek Yoghurt.'

Additionally, on Saturday, The New Indian Express reported that food safety officials inspected MN Enterprises in Bilekahalli on Bannerghatta Road, Karnataka, where they seized expired plain caramel, Nestlé Milkmaid, and Milky Mist khoa. Officials also cited labelling requirement deficiencies at the unit during the inspection.
