Ganesh Visarjan 2026: Mumbai Bids Farewell To Bappa As Immersion Processions Begin (Videos)

Mumbai witnessed the beginning of Ganesh Visarjan processions on Friday as devotees took Ganpati idols out for immersion on Anant Chaturdashi, marking the conclusion of this year’s Ganeshotsav. Visuals from Shroff Building in Lalbaug showed Ganesh idols being taken out amid gatherings of devotees as processions began across the city.

The final day of Ganeshotsav saw devotees accompanying idols from community pandals and homes towards designated immersion points. Chants of “Ganpati Bappa Morya”, dhol-tasha beats, traditional music and showers of flowers were seen as processions moved through different parts of Mumbai. Ganesh Visarjan Processions Begin In Lalbaug

Lalbaug, one of Mumbai’s major Ganeshotsav hubs, witnessed large gatherings of devotees on Friday morning. People assembled along roads to catch a final glimpse of Ganpati idols before they were taken towards immersion locations. Several prominent mandals began their processions after traditional puja and aarti. Devotees were seen accompanying the idols as they moved through the streets, with Girgaon Chowpatty among the major destinations for immersion.

The iconic Lalbaugcha Raja procession is also scheduled to make its way from Lalbaug towards Girgaon Chowpatty during the day. The mandal’s official information confirms that the idol will be taken for immersion on Anant Chaturdashi, September 25.

Mumbai Prepares For Large-Scale Ganpati Visarjan

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Mumbai Police have made extensive arrangements for the final day of the festival. More than 24,000 police personnel are being deployed across Mumbai for security, crowd management and traffic regulation, while the BMC has deployed around 25,000 staff members for immersion-related duties. The civic body has also arranged artificial immersion ponds, lifeguards, ambulances, medical teams, cranes and other emergency services at designated locations.

Anant Chaturdashi Marks Festival's Conclusion

Anant Chaturdashi marks the culmination of Ganeshotsav, when devotees bid farewell to Lord Ganesha by immersing idols in natural water bodies or designated artificial ponds. In Mumbai, immersion processions are expected to continue through Friday and into the early hours of Saturday as idols from different residential areas and public mandals reach designated immersion points.

Authorities have urged devotees to use designated immersion sites, follow safety instructions and cooperate with police and civic personnel during the processions.
