Girl Goes to Buy Stationery in Delhi, Tied Up and Assaulted Inside Sadar Bazar Shop
A Class 6 student was allegedly sexually assaulted after her hands and legs were tied inside a shop in Delhi’s Sadar Bazar area, police said. The girl had reportedly gone to the market to purchase stationery items when the alleged incident took place.
A Class 6 student was allegedly sexually assaulted after her hands and legs were tied inside a shop in Delhi’s Sadar Bazar area, police said. According to Delhi Police, a case was registered at the Women Police Station on the basis of the girl’s complaint. The case includes charges under relevant provisions relating to rape, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and wrongful confinement.
Police said the accused has been identified as 56-year-old Maksud. He was arrested on Friday in connection with the case. The girl is a minor and her identity has not been disclosed in accordance with legal protections for child victims. The police registered the case after receiving the victim’s complaint. Since the alleged victim is a child, provisions of the POCSO Act have been invoked along with relevant rape and wrongful confinement provisions. The POCSO law provides a specific legal framework for cases involving sexual offences against children and prescribes procedures for investigation and trial.
