Gonda: 2 Minor Sisters Drown in Saryu River While Feeding Fish Near Ram Janki Temple
Two minor sisters, aged 15 and nine, drowned in the Saryu river in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda district while feeding fish near the Ram Janki temple. Police said the younger sister slipped into the river, prompting her elder sister to attempt a rescue. Both were swept away and later recovered by villagers. Their bodies were sent for post-mortem examination.

The deceased were identified as 15-year-old Supriya Tiwari and her nine-year-old sister Suhani Tiwari, residents of Baddupurwa Rajapur village, India Today reported. Sisters Slip Into Saryu River While Feeding Fish
According to the information available, the sisters were standing on steps along the riverbank and feeding fish when Suhani allegedly slipped and fell into the Saryu river. Seeing her younger sister struggling in the water, Supriya entered the river in an attempt to rescue her. However, Supriya was also swept into the river and drowned.
The incident caused panic in the area, with local residents rushing to the river after hearing the commotion. Villagers entered the river and began searching for the sisters. After a search, they recovered both bodies from the water. The bodies were subsequently taken to the Paraspur Primary Health Centre, where doctors declared both sisters dead.
Additional Superintendent of Police Radheshyam Rai confirmed that the bodies had been recovered. He said the bodies were sent for post-mortem examination after completion of the necessary formalities. Police said further legal proceedings are underway.
