Surat, December 21: In a shocking case, a 19-year-old boy on Tuesday ended life by hanging himself at his residence in Surat district's Pandesara area. The youth committed suicide after he lost his newly purchased mobile phone. According to a report in Times of India, Pramod committed suicide when he was alone at home. Although police cannot recover any suicide note but his family told police that he was upset after he misplaced his newly purchased cell phone. Reportedly, he purchased mobile which cost him nearly Rs 20,000 from his own earnings. Meanwhile, the police are looking for any other possibility if he had any personal or professional reason. Earlier in a similar case from July, a 25-year-old man, identified as Vicky, committed suicide by consuming acid after his colleague accused him of stealing his cell phone. The incident took place in Delhi's Bharat Nagar. Vicky was taken to a nearby hospital, where, he succumbed during the treatment. Later the police had arrested his colleague for allegedly abetting leading to suicide.

According to data published in the World Health Organisation (WHO), around 8,00,000 people suicide every year, which means one person commits suicide every 40 seconds. The report further added Suicide is the second leading cause of death among 15-29 years of age group. A similar report from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) in 2015, made a shocking revelation that in India, one student commits suicide every hour.
