Gurgaon: PG Owner Shot Dead Over Alleged Financial Dispute; Ex-Army Man Arrested

A 32-year-old paying guest accommodation operator was allegedly shot dead following a financial dispute in Gurgaon, police said, adding that a 40-year-old former Army serviceman was arrested from Delhi within hours of the incident. The shooting took place in Acharya Nagar on Tuesday evening. The victim, identified as Hemant Kaushik, was allegedly shot during an argument with the accused, Amarjeet Grewal alias Amarjeet Fauji. Kaushik's wife and three children were present at the PG accommodation when the incident occurred, TOI reported.

Argument During Financial Discussion Turns Fatal

ACP Naveen Sharma said Kaushik had informed a friend that Grewal was coming to collect money and had asked him to join the meeting. At around 6 pm, an argument allegedly broke out between the two men. Police alleged that Grewal pulled out a pistol and shot Kaushik in the forehead before fleeing the scene.

Wife Raises Alarm After Shooting

Kaushik lived on the ground floor of the PG accommodation with his wife and three children. His wife raised an alarm after hearing the gunshot, following which neighbours and PG occupants gathered at the spot. Ex-Army Man Arrested From Delhi

Following the shooting, police registered a murder case at Sector 14 police station based on a complaint filed by Kaushik's friend. Teams from the Sector 14 police station and Crime Branch Manesar launched a search operation and arrested Grewal from Delhi within four to five hours, police said. Grewal, a resident of Bamla village in Haryana's Bhiwani district, had retired from the Indian Army in 2024.

Rs 6.5 Lakh Transaction Under Investigation

During the investigation, police found that Kaushik and Grewal had become acquainted through a common friend. Investigators said Kaushik had allegedly borrowed around Rs 6.5 lakh from Grewal in 2021.

Police are investigating whether the dispute over the money led to the fatal confrontation. Grewal is being questioned, while efforts are underway to recover the weapon allegedly used in the crime. Kaushik's body was handed over to his family after an autopsy on Wednesday. Further investigation into the case is underway.
