Haryana: Wife, Lover Smother Husband, Throw Him Alive Into Canal in Rewari; Deleted Chats Expose Murder Plot
Police in Rewari, Haryana, have arrested a woman and one accomplice for the alleged murder of her 21-year-old husband, Monu. Investigators revealed that the victim’s wife, Tannu, allegedly conspired with her lover, Sonu, to suffocate Monu before throwing him alive into a canal to stage his death as an accidental drowning or suicide.
A 21-year-old man was allegedly murdered by his wife and her lover in Haryana's Rewari district in a pre-planned conspiracy to make his death appear as a case of suicide or accidental drowning, police said. The case came to light after the victim's family recovered deleted chats and call records from his mobile phone, prompting police to arrest the victim's wife, Tannu, and one of the alleged accomplices. Two other accused remain absconding, officials said, as reported by India Today.
According to police, the victim, identified as Monu, a resident of Jadthal village, had gone to bring his wife back from her parental home on June 8 after receiving his salary. Investigators said Tannu allegedly called Monu and asked him to meet her, while her alleged lover Sonu and two associates, identified as Hariom and Aman, were already waiting at the location. Haryana Murder Case: Wife, Lover Allegedly Plot Husband’s Killing in Bhiwani for INR 1.5 Crore Insurance Money.
Police alleged that the accused overpowered Monu, covered his mouth and nose until he lost consciousness, and then threw him into a canal while he was still alive. Investigators believe the suspects parked his scooter near the canal to make the incident appear to be a case of suicide or accidental drowning.
Body Recovered, Death Initially Treated as Accidental
Monu's family reported him missing after he failed to return home on the night of June 8. The following day, police recovered his body from a canal near Asalwas and found his scooter parked on the canal bank with his mobile phone inside. As there were no visible external injury marks, the case was initially treated as an accidental death under Section 174 proceedings, and the body was handed over to the family after a post-mortem examination. Faridabad: Pregnant Woman Murdered by Husband After Prolonged Confinement at Home.
Deleted Mobile Data Leads to Breakthrough
Suspicion arose after the victim's family received his mobile phone and discovered that its data had been deleted. With the help of cyber experts, they reportedly recovered deleted chats and call records.
According to police, the recovered records showed that Monu had called Tannu multiple times on the day he disappeared and that she remained in contact with her alleged lover. The family later submitted the digital evidence to police and demanded a fresh investigation.
Two Arrested, Search On for Remaining Accused
Following further investigation, police arrested Tannu and Hariom. During questioning, investigators alleged that Tannu confessed to conspiring with her alleged lover Sonu to kill Monu. Police said Sonu and another accused, Aman, are absconding, and efforts are underway to trace and arrest them.
Officials said the investigation is continuing, and further action will be taken based on forensic findings, digital evidence and other material collected during the probe. The allegations against the accused are yet to be tested in court.
