Haryana: Woman Strangles Husband, Throws Him into Canal; Arrested
A woman and her lover have been arrested in Rewari, Haryana, for murdering her husband by throwing him alive into a canal. The crime was initially staged as a suicide, but the victim's family uncovered deleted phone records that exposed the conspiracy, leading to the suspects' arrest.
Police in Haryana have arrested a 21-year-old woman and her accomplice following the discovery of a pre-planned conspiracy to murder her husband, Monu. The victim, a resident of Jadthal village, was allegedly strangled and thrown alive into a canal by his wife, Tannu, and her lover, Sonu, in an attempt to disguise the homicide as a suicide or accidental drowning.
As per a report by India Today, the investigation into the crime was initially treated as a case of accidental death until the victim's family recovered deleted digital evidence. The family’s discovery of suspicious call logs and chat records revealed that Tannu had been in constant contact with her lover on the day Monu went missing, leading them to challenge the initial police theory. Agra Woman Kills Husband, Buries Body Under Bathroom Floor, Then Files Missing Report (Watch Video)
The Conspiracy Unfolds
According to investigators, the plot was set in motion on June 8, 2026, when Tannu called Monu to meet her. Upon his arrival, he was overpowered by Tannu and three male associates, including the primary accused, Sonu. The group strangled Monu until he lost consciousness before throwing him into a canal. To bolster their cover story, they positioned his scooter and mobile phone near the bank, intending for a post-mortem to conclude that death was caused by drowning.
The deception initially appeared successful. Monu's body was recovered on June 10, and police filed proceedings for accidental death. Tannu even participated in the traditional mourning rituals at the victim's home, successfully misleading the family and authorities regarding her involvement for several days.
Digital Evidence Leads to Arrest
Suspicion grew when the victim's family discovered that all data had been wiped from Monu's mobile phone after it was returned by the police. By employing cyber experts, the family successfully retrieved deleted chats that explicitly linked Tannu to her lover, Sonu, and confirmed that she had lured Monu to the location of the attack. Ketan Agarwal Murder Case: Accused Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary Decline Polygraph Test.
Following the family's persistence and the submission of this recovered evidence, the police registered a formal murder case. DSP Surender Sheoran confirmed that Tannu and one accomplice, Hariom, are now in custody. Authorities are currently conducting an intensive search operation to apprehend the main accused, Sonu, and their remaining associate, Aman, who are currently absconding.
