"The first cricket ball I ever held was a red ball. I was 10 years old, and I had no idea then how deeply I would fall in love with this game," Chahal wrote in his heartfelt message. "For me, red-ball cricket was never just another format. It was where I learned the meaning of patience, character, resilience and the pure joy of being out there for hours, fighting for every run and every wicket."

A Red-Ball Journey Concludes

Chahal's last appearance in the longer format came for Northamptonshire in the County Championship Division Two against Middlesex at Lord's, a match that concluded on September 26, 2026. His teammates accorded him a guard of honour, acknowledging his significant contributions. Throughout his first-class career, Chahal played 49 matches, claiming 148 wickets at an average of 32.27, with best figures of 6/44.

While a Test cap remained an unfulfilled dream, Chahal expressed contentment with his journey. "I played my last First-Class match at Lords, saying these words is emotional as a Test cap was always a dream, one that I carried with me for many years. It may not have happened, but I am genuinely content with the journey I have had and incredibly grateful for every opportunity that came my way in this format," he added.  India Likely Playing XI for Asian Games 2026 Cricket Gold Medal Match vs Pakistan: Check Predicted 11.

White-Ball Ambitions Burn Bright

Despite stepping away from red-ball cricket, Chahal's hunger for white-ball glory remains undimmed. He explicitly stated in his post, "I believe I have the cricket left in me, and I will give everything I have to earn another opportunity in the One-Day and T20 formats." Chahal, who was part of India's 2024 T20 World Cup-winning squad, although he did not feature in any of the matches during the tournament, last played for India in August 2023.

His white-ball record speaks volumes of his prowess. In 72 One-Day Internationals, he has scalped 121 wickets at an average of 26.77, including two five-wicket hauls with a best of 6/42. In the shortest format, Chahal has taken 96 wickets in 80 T20 Internationals at an average of 25.09, boasting a remarkable 6/25 against England as his best figures.

IPL Maestro

Chahal has been a consistent performer in franchise cricket, particularly the Indian Premier League (IPL). He etched his name in IPL history in 2024 by becoming the first bowler to achieve 200 wickets, and currently holds the record for the most wickets in the tournament. He currently represents Punjab Kings, having joined them for a record-breaking INR 18 crore ahead of the 2025 season.

Fans will be eagerly watching to see if Chahal's renewed focus on limited-overs cricket translates into a recall to the national squad, adding his invaluable experience and wicket-taking ability to India's white-ball campaigns. With his red-ball journey concluded, Yuzvendra Chahal now embarks on a renewed mission to reclaim his spot in India's limited-overs setup, hoping his singular focus translates into further success on the international stage.
