Lahaul-Sapiti, September 24: In a tragic incident, 45 people including 35 Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee students are missing in Himachal Pradesh’s Lahaul Spiti. The students have gone for trekking to Hamata trekking pass in Kullu. Rajvir Singh, father of one of the students Ankit Bhati said that the students were supposed to return to Manali, but now they had lost contact. Massive snowfall was also reported at the Lahaul-Spiti district today.

Notably, Himachal Pradesh and other northern states of the country has been facing heavy rains. Higher altitude regions of the state have also witnessed snowfall. Meanwhile, government and private schools and colleges in Sirmur, Shimla, Chamba, Mandi, Kullu, Sirmaur, Kangra, Hamirpur, Solan and Kinnaur districts have been directed to remain closed.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of heavy to heavy rainfall will be witnessed tomorrow in most parts of the hill state. Most parts of the state received moderate to heavy rains in the last 24 hours. Manali in Kullu district received the highest rainfall of 127.4 mm, followed by Dharamshala (125.2 mm), Una (124.2 mm), Gagret (118 mm), Jogindernagar (115 mm), Sujanpur (112 mm), Bharwain (110 mm), Nadaun (104 mm), Baijnath (97 mm), Kangra (97.5 mm). Shimla recorded rainfall of 47.1 mm, followed by Kufri (46 mm), Paonta Sahib (35 mm) and Kalpa (24.2 mm).
