According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Cyber Crimes) V. Aravind Babu, the accused, a resident of Kachiguda, targeted a woman recognized as a politically exposed person. Investigations revealed that in October 2025, the accused used an anonymous profile to post objectionable content on a video featuring the victim, which was originally published by the Instagram channel "Pura Local" and widely shared across social media platforms. Following a formal complaint by the victim, law enforcement officials tracked down the suspect and seized a mobile phone used in the commission of the crime. Authorities noted that the accused deliberately created the fraudulent profile to conceal his identity while attempting to harass and defame the victim.
The police have registered a case against the accused under Sections 66(D) (cheating by personation using computer resource) and 67 (transmitting obscene material) of the Information Technology Act, along with Sections 79 and 238 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). In light of the incident, the Hyderabad Cybercrime unit has advised social media users to preserve critical evidence—such as screenshots of abusive content, user profiles, and timestamps—before reporting or blocking cyber offenders. Officers also warned the public against sharing unverified content or interacting with suspicious online profiles.
