Indore: 21-Year-Old Woman Killed by Sister-in-Law Over Remark About Brother
A 21-year-old woman, Vandana, was allegedly stabbed to death and her body dumped in a water tank by her sister-in-law, Parvati Bai Kushwaha, in Indore's Rau area. The incident came to light after the body of Vandana was found inside a water tank outside a locked house in New Nehru Nagar under the Rau police station limits, India Today reported. According to police, CCTV footage from the area proved crucial in identifying the suspect. Investigators reportedly found Parvati leaving the house under suspicious circumstances and subsequently traced her to Aurobindo Hospital, where she had gone to meet her husband, who was admitted there.
Police detained Parvati for questioning. During interrogation, she told investigators that a dispute had broken out between her and Vandana after Vandana made a remark about Parvati's brother. The police said the argument escalated and Parvati attacked Vandana with a knife, striking her on the neck twice. Vandana died from her injuries. Police said Vandana had married Upendra in a love marriage on August 11, and the relationship had reportedly not been accepted by members of the family. According to the police account, there was also dissatisfaction within the family over Vandana's drug or substance use.
Following the marriage, Upendra had reportedly moved out of the New Nehru Nagar house and started living in a rented accommodation in Raj Nagar. Vandana had subsequently gone missing, following which a missing-person complaint was reportedly filed at Chandan Nagar police station.
The fatal confrontation took place on Raksha Bandhan, when Vandana and Parvati were reportedly alone at the house. Parvati's children had gone to school, while her husband and brother-in-law were at a hospital, according to the police.
Investigators examined CCTV footage from the neighbourhood after Vandana's body was discovered. The footage reportedly showed Parvati's movements around the time of the incident and became a key lead in the investigation.
Police said Parvati initially attempted to mislead investigators but later confessed to the crime during questioning. The knife used in the murder was recovered based on information provided by the accused. Deputy Commissioner of Police Narendra Singh Rawat said the case was solved within hours with the help of CCTV footage and prompt police action.
Police have registered a murder case against Parvati and arrested her. Vandana's body was sent for post-mortem examination and was later handed over to her family. Further investigation is underway to establish the complete sequence of events and examine other aspects of the case.
