Hyderabad, January 11: In a unique resolution to a domestic dispute, an interfaith couple in Telangana's Hyderabad performed a second wedding ceremony on the premises of the Kacheguda police station this week. Following initial resistance from the bride's mother and a complaint filed with the authorities, the couple - Syed Imran (26) and Bhavya Sri (24) - amicably settled the matter through police counselling.

The groom, a bank employee, agreed to perform traditional Hindu rituals, including the tying of a mangalsutra, to reconcile with his mother-in-law. Hyderabad Gay Couple Ties the Knot in Presence of Family Members and Close Friends.

A Four-Year Relationship and Initial Opposition

Imran and Bhavya Sri had been in a relationship for approximately four years before deciding to marry. In late 2025, the couple eloped and were married according to Christian traditions in a church.

The choice of a Christian ceremony was rooted in the bride's recent family history; her family had converted to Christianity following the death of her father a few years ago. However, the alliance faced stiff opposition from Bhavya’s mother, who eventually approached the Kacheguda police to intervene.

Police Mediation and Traditional Rituals

Upon being summoned by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Y. Harish Kumar, the couple presented their marriage certificate and affirmed their status as consenting adults. During the subsequent counselling sessions, the bride's mother expressed that she would only accept the union if it was also solemnised according to Hindu traditions.

Seeking an amicable solution, Imran agreed to the request. On January 6, the couple visited the police station again:

The Ritual: In the presence of relatives, Imran tied a mangalsutra around Bhavya Sri's neck, and the couple exchanged garlands.

The Setting: While the ceremony took place on the station grounds as a gesture of reconciliation, police officials noted they were not directly present during the actual ritual to maintain administrative neutrality. Hyderabad: Married Woman Allegedly Elopes With Man She Met on Social Media, Police Launch Search After Husband Files Missing Complaint in Medchal (See Pic and Videos).

Family Reconciliation and Resolution

Unlike the initial friction with the bride’s family, the groom's side - consisting of his mother and widowed sister - reportedly supported the marriage from the beginning. Police confirmed that both individuals are well-settled professionals, with Bhavya Sri employed in the software industry.

Following the second ceremony, the bride's mother has reportedly reconciled with the couple. Although members of a right-wing organisation had initially gathered to oppose the interfaith union, they did not appear at the time of the final resolution, and no further disturbances were reported.
