Srinagar, February 16: Two days after the Pulwama terror attack, Pakistan violated ceasefire by firing on Indian posts in Nowshera sector along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district on Saturday, leaving one soldier injured. The jawan was injured when Pakistani troops resorted to ceasefire violations in Nowshera sector. Indian forces retaliated and an exchange of fire was continuing in the area.

The ceasefire violation by Pakistan followed an IED blast near the Line of Control (LoC) in the same sector in which an Army major was martyred. Major Chitresh Singh Bisht lost his life in an improvised explosive device (IED) explosion, Defence Ministry spokesman, Lt Col Devender Anand said. According to officials, the IED could have been planted by militants.

The blast occurred at Lam Jhanger area, around 1.5 km from the LoC when the officer was defusing the IED. The major is from the Corps of Engineers. The IED blast and ceasefire violation happened two days after one of the deadliest terror strikes on security forces in the Valley in three decades that killed 40 security personnel in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama. A terrorist of Pakistan-based outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into a bus they were travelling in. Pulwama Terrorist Attack: MHA Issues Advisory For Safety of Kashmiri People Living in Other States.

The attack has left the security establishment stunned as it created the biggest casualty of security personnel in a single day in peacetime. The convoy of 78 buses, in which around 2500 CRPF personnel were travelling from Jammu to Srinagar, came under attack at around 3.15 pm at Ladhu Modi Lethpora. A day after the attack, the Centre announced the withdrawal of 'Most Favoured Nation' (MFN) status granted to Pakistan.

As many as 48 countries have extended support to India, condemning the dastardly act. However, Pakistan denied its involvement in the Pulwama terror attack. Islamabad also threatened to retaliate on withdrawal of the MFN status by New Delhi.
