Jaipur: Class 12 Student Dies After Eating Patty at School Canteen
A 17-year-old Class 12 student died in Jaipur’s Jhotwara area under suspicious circumstances on Wednesday after collapsing at his school shortly after consuming a patty from the campus canteen.
A 17-year-old Class 12 student died after collapsing at a private school in Jaipur’s Jhotwara area, with his family alleging that he fell ill after eating a patty from the school canteen. The student, identified as Prince Soni, reportedly collapsed on the school premises on Wednesday and was later taken to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Police have registered a case and questioned teachers and the school owner as part of the investigation, NDTV reported.
Student Collapses After Eating Patty
According to the family, Prince had not brought his lunchbox to school and went to the canteen with a friend, where they ate patties. The family alleged that he began vomiting shortly afterwards and complained of feeling unwell. CCTV footage reportedly shows Prince walking on the school premises before stopping and falling. School staff later carried him to another room, where a teacher was seen attempting CPR.
Family Alleges Delay in Hospitalisation
Prince’s family has accused the school administration of failing to arrange immediate medical treatment. The family alleged that the student remained on the school premises for around 45 minutes instead of being taken directly to a hospital. A relative said the family was asked to arrange a vehicle to transport him. ‘Don’t Send Me to School’: 9-Year-Old Student Dies by Suicide Amid Bullying at Neerja Modi School, Jaipur; Call Recording Surfaces.
Prince’s father, Amit Soni, said he eventually rushed his son to a nearby private hospital. Doctors there referred him to Manipal Hospital, where Prince was declared dead. The family has alleged that the school should have recognised the seriousness of Prince’s condition and arranged emergency medical assistance.
Police Question School Staff
Following the incident, police reached the school and recorded statements from students and teachers. Teachers and the school owner have been questioned in connection with the case. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the student's death and whether there was any negligence in providing medical assistance.
The exact cause of death has not yet been established. Police have said the post-mortem findings will be important in determining what led to the teenager’s death.
Protest Outside School
The incident triggered protests by Prince’s family and other people outside the school. The family demanded action against those responsible and accused the administration of negligence. The allegations regarding the canteen food have not yet been independently established. Investigators are expected to examine the food consumed by the student and other available evidence as part of the probe.
Investigation Underway
The case has raised questions about emergency medical preparedness and the responsibility of schools to respond quickly when students fall seriously ill. For now, police are awaiting further evidence, including the post-mortem findings, before determining the precise cause of Prince’s death and whether any criminal liability arises from the incident.
