The appeal reportedly received donations from several people who wanted to help the family, with some donors now claiming that they contributed their savings, rent money, and even internship stipends after being moved by the story.

Shroff Eye Centre Issues Public Alert Over Forged Papers

The hospital shared an Instagram Story featuring a copy of the prescription and a screenshot of Rathore’s X post. Its warning read: “Alert. It has come to our knowledge that some person/s has created a fake patient, prescription and estimate sheet on our letterheads and is asking NGOs and individuals on WhatsApp for help. Please be aware and SHARE to prevent people from becoming victims of this deception."

He claimed that he had made a mistake and said the money was actually needed because his father was unwell. According to his explanation, he had used his sister’s name because he believed it would help the appeal reach more people.

Confrontations in X Spaces and Refund Claims

However, his explanation failed to convince several users, who continued demanding clarity over the funds. During the X Spaces sessions, participants reportedly shared donors’ UPI details with Rathore and asked him to return the money. He subsequently posted payment screenshots to some participants, claiming that he had already refunded a portion of the amount.

Another screenshot shared by a user online reportedly showed Rathore’s bank balance falling from INR 1,58,282.58 to INR 1,37,893.58. The screenshot could not independently establish the reason for the change in balance.

Meanwhile, X user @Raniisaa_, who had amplified Rathore’s initial appeal, was also accused by some users of being connected to the alleged scam. She subsequently shared a post denying any involvement with him. Rathore later appeared in another X Spaces session at around 3:30 am on September 23, where he said he would return in the morning to clarify his earlier post and address the money received from donors.

Rathore Posts Four-Part Apology and Pledges Repayment

Amid the mounting online backlash, Rathore posted a four-part apology on X detailing his admission and promising a full reimbursement once account limits expire.

In the first part, he wrote: “(1/n) ~ Hey everyone! I want to sincerely apologize to everyone affected by my actions. I accept that I made a mistake, and I understand that what I did was wrong. There are a few things I could explain, but I don’t think discussing them here would change anything. What matters~"

He followed it by stating: “2/n)~ is that I take responsibility for my actions. Everyone will get their money back ,every last dime. At the moment, my bank account is under a 24-hour restriction. As soon as that restriction is lifted, I will start repaying everyone ~"

In the third part, Rathore wrote: “(3/n) ~ I was naive and didn’t fully understand the consequences of what I was doing. I do now, and I’ve genuinely realized my mistake. I’ve never done anything like this in my life before. I sincerely ask you to forgive me and consider this my first and last mistak ~" His final post read, “(4/4) ~ Thank you for your patience and understanding."

The alleged crowdfunding controversy continues to gain traction on X, with several users sharing their experiences and demanding that the money collected through the appeal be returned.
